《纽约时报》报道，这封信由美国国家安全领袖组织发起，签名者包括前国务卿、前国防部长、前大使和退役司令。他们强调，只有哈里斯具备担任三军统帅所需要的气质和价值观，并指共和党总统候选人特朗普对国家安全和美国民主制度都构成了威胁。
