A manhunt is underway for a gunman who killed ten people and wounded ten others when he opened fire at a ballroom dance studio in Monterey Park, California.
The shooting on Saturday night – the deadliest since the Uvalde school shooting last May – came on the same day as Lunar New Year celebrations in the city which attracted thousands of members of the Asian American community. 6park.com
Law enforcement said during a press conference on Sunday that just 20 to 30 minutes after the attack in Monterey Park, a separate incident occurred in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra. A gun was recovered from the second scene.
Police are probing a link between the two situations, but have not confirmed whether they are connected. No injuries were reported in Alhambra.
“We are aware of an incident that occurred in Alhambra and we have investigators on scene trying to determine if there is a connection,” Captain Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said during a Sunday press conference.
Mr Luna said the suspect entered the studio with a gun, but was disarmed by patrons at the business.
“A male Asian suspect walked into a dance hall with a firearm and some individuals wrestled the firearm away from him and that individual took off,” Mr Luna said during a press conference on Sunday. “Some witnesses in that area are describing a white cargo van, we don’t know though at this time if it’s connected.”
