Japan scrambling warplanes as often asduring Cold War era

TOKYO (AP) — Japan's government saidWednesday that the number of scrambles by the country's warplanes has surged inrecent years to levels nearly matching the Cold War era amid growing activityby China and Russia in the region.

东京（美联社）——日本政府周三称日本战机的起飞数量最近几年急剧攀升，几乎堪比冷战时期，主要是因为中国和俄罗斯在该地区不断增加的活动。

The Self Air-Defense Force scrambled itsjets 943 times during the 12-month period through March 31, just one short ofthe record set in 1984, the Defense Ministry said. The scrambles were dominatedby those against Chinese and Russian aircraft.

截至3月31号为止的12个月期间，日本起飞战机943次，只比1984年的最高记录少一次，日本防卫省称。大部分的战机起飞是为了应对中国和俄罗斯的飞机。

The ministry reported 133 more scramblesthan the previous year, underscoring growing tension in the region.

日本防卫省说今年的次数比前一年增加了133次，充分说明了该地区不断加剧的紧张氛围。

Chinese aircraft that were targeted byscrambles were mainly fighter jets approaching disputed East China Sea islands,a main source of diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Japanesedefense forces scrambled 464 times against Chinese aircraft, up 49 times from ayear earlier.

日本起飞战机进行应对的中国飞机主要是前往有争议东海岛屿的中国战机，这些有争议的岛屿是中日外交关系紧张的一个主要原因。日本自卫队起飞战机464次应对中国飞机，比前一年增加49次。

The ministry said none of the Chineseplanes violated Japanese airspace.
