Review Huawei Mate 10: four camera flagship phone: release date, price, comparison with Mate 9

Last year, at the end of fall, the Chinese electronics manufacturer Huawei presented a new flagship among the tablets called Huawei Mate 9. The smartphone received top-end hardware, two cameras on the rear panel, a lot of memory and a powerful battery.




Now we are waiting for Huawei Mate 10 that also should be announced in fall. In general, the line of Mate smartphones can be called the leading one for Huawei, since Mate smartphones have advanced features.




According to the latest rumors, new frameless 6-inch Huawei Mate 10 with a 10-m Kirin 970 processor and a dual camera both in front and behind will be presented. The battery capacity will increase by almost 1000 mAh in comparison with its predecessor.

After the release of frameless smartphone Xiaomi Mi Mix, other smartphone manufacturers were very worried. Still, the Chinese brand was the first to release a smartphone unlike anything with a stylish design. Xiaomi made its debut and set the trend bar for competitors. Xiaomi Mi Mx made it clear that the future of smartphones, at least in the near future, is frameless. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus only confirmed this assumption.










As for Huawei Mate 10, we are promised a frameless device with top specs. While it remains unknown how the frameless will be implemented – by the principle of Xiaomi Mi Mix or Galaxy S8, since the display form factor of 18: 9 is also now in the trend.

Huawei Mate 10: performance, processor




If we talk about new Kirin 970 processor, there are very few changes in specs of the chipset if compared to Kirin 960 predecessor. The only important change is the reduction in the process technology, which promises both a reduction in heating, a decrease in the battery charge, and an increase in performance.




However, Huawei Kirin 970 still can not compete on equal terms with the same Snapdragon 835 because the graphics accelerator Mali-G71 MP8 is weaker than Adreno 540. The Kirin 970 loses at Exynos 8895 due to the fact that the latter uses a similar graphics accelerator, but the number of cores is 20, not eight as in Kirin 970. Another important fact is that by the autumn of 2017, Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 will be manufactured according to a 10nm process technology, but already of the second generation, which exceeds the first by 10% in performance.




However, it is worth to pay tribute to Huawei, as we are promised as much as 256 GB of internal memory and up to 8 GB of RAM.

Huawei Mate 9 has a dual camera with a resolution of 12 MP RGB and 20 MP monochrome. It removes this bundle quite well and the new Huawei P10 confirms this. We expect that new smartphone will have an increase in the resolution of the main cameras to 16 and 23 MP, respectively. So the we should expect an improvement in quality of photos, although optics and software mostly solve this problem.




By the way, rumors say that Huawei Mate 10 will have a double front camera with a resolution of 12 and 8 MP, and as optics lenses from Leica.




Huawei Mate 10: battery




Reducing the process and increasing the battery are two of the most important factors for the battery life of any smartphone. In this respect, Huawei is great, as for a 6-inch display with a 2K resolution, you need a large battery and a capacity of 4900 mAh should just be enough. So we can assume that Huawei Mate 10 will stay awake for at least 1.5 days with average usage. Do not forget about fast charging Huawei Super Charge 3.0 (from 0% to 57% for 30 minutes).
